Creating Safer Clinics: Lessons from Healthed Medical Melbourne Seminar

Last week, I attended the Healthed Medical Update 2025 at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. The Healthed Australia team has been providing professional development opportunities for medical practitioners nationwide for over 20 years—and this event was no exception. It was inspiring to see such a strong turnout of GPs for this one-day seminar, and to introduce many of them to Exhail, our software-based duress button, for the very first time.

Demonstrating Exhail and explaining how it can genuinely help staff in a range of situations is one thing—but hearing real stories from doctors brought the importance of workplace safety into sharp focus:

  • “I work at an old clinic—there’s no panic button! I actually don’t feel safe.”

  • “One time a patient came in with a brick… it wasn’t for us, but you can imagine the fright.”

  • “Three different doctors at three different practices all noted that their panic buttons call police or security immediately, with no way to intercept if they were accidentally pressed, causing them to never use them even in a emergency.”

  • “I’m not even sure if we have a panic button.”

  • And one doctor (with a grin): “Haven’t had to use a panic button… yet.”

These conversations reinforced something we always make clear: Exhail is not a replacement for a physical panic button. Instead, it’s an additional layer of protection—often the most practical one in specific scenarios.

Physical panic buttons aren’t always accessible when you need them, and in some situations, reaching for one could escalate the threat. The same goes for phones or intercom systems. But if you’re already at your computer—with your hands on or near the mouse and keyboard—Exhail may be the quickest, safest, and only reliable way to call for help.

When stress levels spike, thinking clearly and following procedures can be difficult. That’s why we’ve designed Exhail to be:

  • Always Ready – The Exhail icon stays visible where you choose, on top of any application you’re using.

  • Works Without Internet – Once installed and configured on your network, it keeps working during outages.

  • Simple & Fast – Trigger alerts instantly without fumbling for devices or remembering complicated steps.

These features sparked a lot of interest from attendees, with many keen to explore our free 30-day trial. We also offer complimentary installation and full access to all features during the trial—so practices can truly see if Exhail is the right fit for their clinic.

Events like this remind us that workplace safety isn’t a “nice-to-have”—it’s essential. And while no single tool is the answer to every emergency, having multiple, reliable options can make all the difference when seconds count.
